The Complete Liturgies of Benevolent and Aiding True Lord 洪恩灵济真君斋仪

The Daozang (Taoist Canon), under the Rituals Category of the Dongxuan Section, includes eight volumes of retreat and sacrifice rituals dedicated to the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, namely: The Spontaneous Practice Ritual of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, The Eve Vigil Ritual for Gathering Blessings of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, The Morning Audience Ritual for Gathering Blessings of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, The Midday Audience Ritual for Gathering Blessings of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, The Evening Audience Ritual for Gathering Blessings of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, The Ritual of Offering Sacrifices for Thanksgiving and Prayer to the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, The Prayer Text of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, and The Seven Luminaries Lamp Ritual of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord—each in one scroll.

None of the above eight retreat rituals originally credited an author.

According to the records in The Deeds of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, they were compiled by a Taoist priest surnamed Wang by imperial order during the reign of Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty.

These eight texts were compiled as a single volume, with the collective title The Retreat Rituals of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord.

The ritual procedures recorded in each text were adapted from The Supreme Yellow Register Retreat Rituals written by Du Guangting at the end of the Tang Dynasty. Their ritual sequences are largely similar, with only slight variations in eulogies, incantations, prayers and declarations. The purpose of practicing these retreat rituals is to pray for the protection of the Benevolent and Miraculous Salvation True Lord, wish for the eternal stability of the imperial state and the long life of the sovereign, and offer blessings to the imperial family, nobles, and all people under heaven.
