An early classic of the Shangqing (Supreme Pure) School of Taoism, it is one of the transmitted versions of the Shangqing Dadong Zhenjing (Supreme Pure Great Cavern True Scripture). According to the postscript by Gong Detong appended at the end of the compilation, this version should date from the Song and Yuan dynasties.
The original text consists of two scrolls and is included in the "Benwen Lei" (Original Text Category) of the Dongzhen Bu (Great Cavern Section) within the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

The scripture in this text is also divided into thirty-nine chapters, with wording slightly different from that of the version from the Maoshan Patriarchal Altar (i.e., the six-scroll version).
After each chapter of the scripture, there is one jade talisman, a section of prayers, and annotations by "Real Person Zhao of Taixuan". Before the main text of the thirty-nine chapters, there are rituals for scripture recitation, spell incantations, diagrams for spirit contemplation, and the Dadong Shenhui Yinshu (Hidden Text of the Great Cavern’s Divine Wisdom). After the thirty-nine chapters, the text includes the "Incantation of Real Person Taixuan", the Dadong Neilian Yu Zhang (Jade Chapters on Internal Alchemy of the Great Cavern), and the Yuqing Dadong Neilian Yu Jing (Jade Scripture on Internal Alchemy of the Great Cavern of the Jade Purity Realm).
The overall content of the text focuses on contemplating spirits and reciting scriptures, which is roughly similar to the Maoshan Patriarchal Altar version. However, there are significant differences between the two versions in terms of chapter structure, phrasing, talisman diagrams, and prayers.
