Dai Beizhuang was a native of Huguang (a historical administrative region in imperial China, covering parts of present-day Hubei and Hunan provinces) during the Qianlong and Jiaqing reigns of the Qing Dynasty.

He possessed extraordinary arm strength and was skilled in horseback riding and archery. At the age of forty-one, he went to Zhejiang Province and became a disciple of Cai Tianyi, a Taoist Master of the Vinaya from Jingu Cave.

He lived alone in Yunshui Pavilion, reciting the Huangting Jing (Yellow Court Scripture, a core Taoist classic on inner cultivation) day and night. His state of mind was as clear and serene as still water, and he maintained consistency in both his quiet contemplation and active conduct. When interacting with others, he was as gentle and warm as the spring breeze.

Both Taoist practitioners and ordinary people, regardless of their social status, held him in high esteem.

He was the 13th-Generation Master of the Vinaya in the Longmen (Dragon Gate) Sect of Taoism.
