Ding Yehe was a native of Qiantang during the Yuan Dynasty.

He abandoned his family to become a Taoist monk of the Quanzhen Sect and studied under Xu Dongyang.

He would go from door to door reciting Taoist scriptures, and only asked for a small amount of rice as alms. He resided in Ziyang Hut on Wushan Mountain and was skilled in illusionary arts—he could use a paper crane to lure a flock of real cranes into crying in unison.

His wife, Wang Shousu, later also entered the mountain to become a Taoist nun and practice Taoism.

His story can be found in Records of the West Lake (Xihu Zhi) and Notes from the Stopped Plough (Chuogeng Lu).
