The Divine Guardian's Nation-Protecting Scripture FULL NAME IS

The Wonderful Scripture of the Supreme Great Sage, Bright-Spirit Supreme General for Protecting the Nation

Author unknown. It consists of one scroll and is included in the Supplementary Daoist Canon.

The scripture fictitiously depicts Guan Yu, titled the Loyal and Righteous Martial Peace King and the Chongning Supreme Dao True Lord, ascending the altar to deliver discourses. It propagates the concepts of karmic retribution as well as Confucian ethical principles of social order and moral conduct.

It exhorts people to be loyal ministers and filial sons, uphold goodness and reject evil, reflect on themselves to minimize transgressions, and refrain from benefiting themselves at the expense of others.

Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty conferred the title of "Loyal and Righteous Martial Peace King" upon Guan Yu in the fifth year of the Xuanhe reign period (1123), so this text was presumably compiled after that time.
