Shuoyi on the Great Brahma Hidden Language in the Dongxuan Lingbao Duren Jing (Commentary on the Esoteric Words of the Great Brahma from the Numinous Treasure Scripture for Saving Beings of the Mysterious Grotto)

The original text does not record the author.

Judging from its content and linguistic style, it was presumably compiled by Taoist priests during the Sui-Tang periods (c. 581–907 CE).

One juan (scroll), included in the Daozang (Taoist Canon) under the Dongzhenbu (True Grotto Section), Yujue lei (Jade Commentaries Category).

This work selects terms and passages from the Duren Jing (Scripture for Saving Beings), such as the "Great Brahma Hidden Language," "Middle Chapter of the Spiritual Book," "Inner Sounds of the Thirty-Two Heavens," and "Postscript by the Dao Lord," and interprets their meanings by synthesizing the theories of various scholars.

For example, in annotating the term "hidden language," it states: "The 'hidden language' refers to the sounds of the Great Brahma, which differ from those of the mortal world; 'there are four types of hidden language: first, hidden names, second, hidden taboos, third, hidden matters, and fourth, hidden meanings.'"

This literary style is similar to that of Taoist texts compiled during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (c. 420–589 CE) and Sui-Tang periods, such as Lingbao Jing Yishu (Commentaries on the Meanings of the Numinous Treasure Scriptures), Xuanmen Dayi (Great Principles of the Mysterious Gate), and Daojiao Yishu (Pivots of Taoist Doctrine).
