Preface and Commentary on the Shengxuan Buxu Zhang of the Numinous Treasure of the Cave Mysterious

The original author is unknown; it was presumably compiled by Taoist priests during the Sui and Tang Dynasties (581–907 CE).

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Eulogies Category of the Dongxuan (Mysterious Grotto) Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

This text excerpts and annotates the ten poems of Dongxuan Buxu Yin (Odes of Pacing the Void of the Cave Mysterious) from the Dongxuan Lingbao Yujingshan Buxu Jing (The Scripture of Pacing the Void at Jade Capital Mountain of the Numinous Treasure of the Cave Mysterious). Prefaced with an introductory essay, it provides a commentary on the meaning of "Tai Shang Xuan Du Yu Jing Shan" (the Supreme Mysterious Capital Jade Capital Mountain).

Its annotations and commentaries are primarily based on the Chongxuan (Twofold Mystery) philosophy, which prevailed in Taoism during the Sui and Tang Dynasties. The scripture is interpreted through the lens of purifying the mind and spirit, and awakening to one’s original nature.
