The Du Yangdong 杜阳栋

Du Yangdong was a native of Dengzhou, Shandong during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

As recorded in Luofu Xinzhi (New Records of Mount Luofu) and Chongxu Guanzhi (Records of Chongxu Temple), Du Yangdong studied the classics for the imperial civil service examinations in his youth and became a jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination) in the late Ming Dynasty. Unwilling to serve the Qing government, he became a Taoist Priest and lived in seclusion at Chongxu Temple on Mount Luofu. Later, he served as the abbot of the "Five Temples" (a collective term for five major Taoist temples in the Mount Luofu area) and concurrently held the position of abbot at Yuanmiao Temple and Sanyuan Palace in Huizhou.

He raised funds to establish Nantian Temple in Huidong County, promoted Taoism, and gained great fame within the Taoist community.
