The Duan Guangpu 段光普

Duan Guangpu (? - 1190), a native of Pingshui (present-day Xinjiang County, Shanxi Province) in the Jin Dynasty, styled himself Mingyuan and went by the Taoist title "Zhenyangzi" (Master of True Yang).

According to the first volume of Zhongnanshan Zuting Xianzhen Neizhuan (Inner Biographies of Immortal Sages from the Ancestral Court of Zhongnan Mountain), Guangpu was bold and chivalrous by nature. He once injured someone in a dispute caused by drinking, so he fled to the Guanzhong region. There, he became a disciple of Ma Danyang, who taught him to "restrain desires and purify the mind, and subdue arrogance to temper sharpness." Guangpu earnestly practiced what he had learned, and within just a few years, he attained the profound realm of Taoist wisdom.

Later, he returned to Hedong (a historical region covering parts of present-day Shanxi and Henan). He built the "Lezhen An" (Thatched Hut of Attaining Truth) north of Jishan County, where he devoted himself to Taoist cultivation.

In the 22nd year of the Dading era (1182), he traveled to Tongguan and paid his respects to Ma Danyang with ritual propriety.

Duan Guangpu passed away due to illness in the first year of the Mingchang era (1190). He authored a work titled Mingyuan Ji (Collected Works of Mingyuan), which was circulated among later generations.
