The Eastern Peak Great Life Confession 东岳大生宝忏

According to research, it should have been written by Taoist priests during the Yuan Dynasty.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in The Daozang (Taoist Canon), under the Dongxuan Section, Ritual Category.

The text states that the Great Emperor of the Eastern Peak Tianqi executes heavenly decrees, governs the underworld, determines the length of human lifespans, and administers thirty-six hells to punish the evil. Mortals should wholeheartedly pay homage to the Great Emperor, repent for the karmic sins of body, speech and mind, and venerate the immortals and deities under the Great Emperor’s jurisdiction, so as to pray for the elimination of transgressions, be inscribed in the register of longevity, ensure everyone’s peace and safety, enable nine generations of ancestors to attain immortality, and bring universal celebration in all ten directions. Its repentance rituals mainly include altar purification, the Three Refuges, incantation recitation, Buxu chanting, flower scattering, the Three Invocations and Three Homages, scripture veneration, the Twelve Vows and other Taoist ceremonies.

The content of this work is similar to that of Yuanshi Tianzun Says the Mysterious Code, Edict and Incantation Scripture of the Eastern Peak’s Incarnation for Saving Lives, Transcending the Dead, Redeeming Sins, Resolving Grievances and Preserving Life, which is included in the Xu Daozang (Continued Taoist Canon).
