The Essential Book of Master Yellow Stone
This work is a revised and annotated version based on Zhang Shangying’s annotated edition of Susshu. At the beginning of the volume, there is a preface written by Wei Lu, who praised Susshu as a book that "embodies the ways of governing a state with morality at its core, the techniques of preserving one’s life and protecting one’s person in its middle part, and the principles of establishing hegemony and safeguarding the state in its secondary part, being comprehensive and without omission". It is evident that Wei Lu adopted texts from Yinfujing (The Scripture of the Hidden Talisman); his annotations lean toward the discourses of military strategists, yet their core purport is rooted in the thoughts of the Huang-Lao School, which is an important ideological origin of Taoism and has a profound connection with the philosophical system of Laozi.
