The Fang Dingxiang 方定相

Paul Peng

Fang Dingxiang was a native of Yugan, Jiangxi during the Jiajing and Longqing reigns of the Ming Dynasty.

Known by his literary name Yishan, he was a Taoist priest at Daguan Courtyard of Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi.

He studied under Wang Shizuo and followed Wang to have an audience with the emperor.

The emperor admired his literary grace and elegance, so he appointed Fang as Zuo Zhiling (a mid-ranking official in the Taoist Administrative Bureau), and later promoted him to You Yanfa (a higher-ranking Taoist official).

Details of his life can be found in The Annals of Longhu Mountain.
