The Supreme Lord Laozi Speaks the Scripture of the Golden Chapters of the Five Dippers for Receiving Life
The author is unknown, and the scripture was seemingly compiled in the Song and Yuan dynasties.
In one volume, it is classified under the Original Text Category ofThe Dongshen Sectionand officially included inThe Daozang.
This scripture proclaims that all mortal beings are bound by destined karmic affinities in life, each endowed with the upright vital energy of the Five Elements, and each placed under the governance of the Five Dippers."The Star Lords of the Five Dippers and all the sacred sages of the Nine Heavens decree mortal birth and official rank, bestow wealth and assign poverty, determine longevity and brevity of lifespan, grant auspiciousness and misfortune — all these retributions are borne by sentient beings for their own deeds."
It exhorts mortal beings to either observe fasting and abstinence, or perform virtuous deeds and cultivate benevolent affinities, recite and uphold the divine incantations of the True Scripts of the Five Directions, and hold Taoist ritual ceremonies according to their own capacity. Above all, one shall vow to present natal money to the Star Lords of the Five Dippers and one’s natal Primordial Lunar Lord.
"When one fulfills the ritual offerings and burnings in accordance with this teaching with no outstanding karmic debts left, one shall attain peace and bliss in the mortal world, enjoy smooth fortunes in all comings and goings, gain supreme auspiciousness in all undertakings, and have all heartfelt wishes fulfilled as desired."
This work is a composition by Zhengyi Taoist priests who invoked the names of deities to solicit alms and offerings.
