Four Assistants
A classification method for Taoist books.
It first appeared in Catalogue of the Seven Parts of Jade Weft by Master Meng of the Southern Dynasties.
Since the classification by the Three Caves could not cover all Taoist books, the "Four Assistants" emerged after the Three Caves as a supplement or auxiliary to the Three Caves.
The Four Assistants refer to the Taiqing Section, Taiping Section, Taixuan Section, and Zhengyi Section.
Among them, the Taiqing Section assists the Dongshen Section, the Taiping Section assists the Dongxuan Section, the Taixuan Section assists the Dongzhen Section, and the Zhengyi Section generally assists the above six sections and comprehensively presents the Three Vehicles of Taoism.
