The Fu Shu 富恕

Fu Shu was a native of Luoyang during the Jin and Yuan dynasties, and his courtesy name was Ziwei.

He came from an official family: his grandfather, Fu Bi, once served as the Prime Minister of the Northern Song Dynasty and was granted the title of Duke of Zheng.

Fu Shu was fond of the Taoist techniques for longevity, such as tuna (breath control), and was skilled in refining huangbai (external alchemical elixirs, traditionally believed to be able to turn base metals into gold or grant immortality). One of his works, Huanyuan Huohou Jue (The Secret of the Alchemical Fire's Rhythm for Returning to Primordial Vitality), has been passed down to later generations.

Influenced by his family tradition from an early age, Fu Shu was proficient in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He passed the imperial examination and obtained the title of jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination). Later, when war broke out, he traveled south to Jiangsu Province, where he became a Taoist monk at Zhaoling Guan (Zhaoling Taoist Temple) in Wujiang. He built the Chisuo Pavilion on Xuetan (Snow Beach) there for his cultivation, and his reputation was renowned among Taoist practitioners in the Jiangnan region.
