The Gan Ning 甘凝
Paul PengShare
Gan Ning was a native of Nanfeng, Jiangxi Province, during the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties period.
From a young age, he had an extraordinary temperament and moral conduct. He passed the imperial examination for the title of Jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination) but declined to take up an official position, instead becoming a Taoist priest.

He lived in seclusion and practiced Taoism at the foot of Junfeng Mountain. He was skilled in divination, and his prayers for sunshine (to end rain) or rain (to relieve drought) were quite effective. The local people held him in high esteem. His deeds are recorded in Jianchang Fu Zhi (Records of Jianchang Prefecture).
