The Geng Yilan 耿义兰

Geng Yilan was a figure of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). He became a Taoist Priest in his youth. During the Wanli reign period (1573–1620) of the Ming Dynasty, the imperial court bestowed upon him Taoist books, Taoist scriptures, as well as Taoist music scores and guqin (a traditional Chinese seven-stringed zither).

Geng Yilan once studied the Shifang Jingyun (Ten-Direction Scripture Rhymes, a system of Taoist liturgical music widely used across different regions) at the Baiyun Guan (White Cloud Temple) in Beijing. After returning to Mount Laoshan, he further collected and researched musical tunes, Taoist music scores, and related materials from the Central Plains, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and other regions. Based on these studies, he composed new musical works. His efforts made important contributions to the spread of Shifang Jingyun and the development of Mount Laoshan Taoist music.
