The Guan Taiqing 管太清

The Guan Taiqing 管太清

Paul Peng
Guan Taiqing was a native of Daxing (now part of Beijing Municipality) during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. As recorded in Jingai Xindeng (The Lamp of the Heart at Golden Canopy): During the Shunzhi reign period (1644–1661), he met a Taoist master from Xizhu (literally "Western India," often referring to regions west of China in ancient texts, or a metaphorical term for a wise outsider). He studied under this master, learned the master’s Taoist magic for combating evil forces, and eventually attained the profound Dao (the fundamental principle of Taoism). When his fame spread, people of his time called him "Guan Tianxian" (Immortal Guan of Heaven).

He belonged to the Xinzong (Heart Sect) branch of the Longmen (Dragon Gate) School of Quanzhen Taoism.
