The Gui Taixian 归太咸

Gui Taixian was a native of Changzhou County in Sujun (present-day Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province) during the Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Lingjun, and his Taoist title was Nanyang. His family had been engaged in Confucian scholarship for generations.

He studied under Lü Yunyin, from whom he received the Three Major Precepts (the core precept system of Taoism, including the Chuzhen Precepts, Zhongji Precepts, and Tianxian Precepts). He began his journey as a wandering Taoist at the age of fifty.

In the 47th year of the Kangxi reign (1708), he traveled from Guanshan Mountain to Jingshan Mountain (Golden Canopy Mountain) and Wuling, then journeyed south to the regions of Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan, and Guizhou. Later, he returned to Mount Taihua and Mount Lushan. By this time, Lü Yunyin had already passed away; Lü Quanyang invited Gui Taixian to serve as the main lecturer at Guanshan Mountain to promote and disseminate Taoist doctrines.

He was a 9th-generation Lvshi (Precept Master) of the Longmen (Dragon Gate) School of Taoism.
