The Guo Baoning 郭保宁

Paul Peng
Guo Baoning was a native of Linchuan (now part of Jiangxi Province) during the Southern Song Dynasty. His courtesy name was Xiuyun.
He studied under Wang Yankuan, and by nature, he was upright, honest, and unyielding. He dedicated himself to the teachings and practices of Taoism, was skilled in composing poetry and playing the qin (a traditional Chinese seven-stringed zither), and enjoyed associating with recluses and practitioners who pursued pure spiritual cultivation beyond worldly concerns.

During the Qiandao era (1165–1173 CE), he was officially appointed as the Supervisor of the Imperial Taoist Temple (Ben Gong Jian Gong) by imperial decree.
