Han Mao was a native of Luzhou, Sichuan during the Ming Dynasty, and styled himself "Feixia Daoren" (Taoist Priest Feixia).

He was a registered Taoist priest of Mount Emei.

As recorded in Comprehensive Gazetteer of Sichuan, he was a "zhusheng" (a student studying in a government-run school) in his youth. After failing the imperial examinations repeatedly, he became a Taoist priest. He conducted himself with noble integrity and was skilled in writing poetry and prose. Later, he met a senior Taoist who taught him Taoist doctrines and practices, and from then on, his reputation spread throughout his hometown.

During the Zhengde reign period of the Ming Dynasty (1506–1521), the imperial court summoned him to the capital. He cured Emperor Wuzong of his illness using medicine, so the emperor bestowed upon him the title "Baoyi Shouzheng Zhenren" (True Person Who Upholds Unity and Upholds Righteousness) and issued an imperial order to build the Feixia Palace (Palace of Flying Rosy Clouds) for him.
