The Han Xiang 韩湘
Paul PengShare
Han Xiang, courtesy name Qingfu, was a native of Nanyang in the Tang Dynasty (now part of Henan Province).
He was the nephew of Han Yu (a renowned scholar and official of the Tang Dynasty).
From a young age, he was unconstrained by conventions and fond of drinking; he spoke with sharp insight on profound Daoist mysteries, and was particularly fond of talking about tales of immortals.

According to legend, he was guided and enlightened by Lü Chunyang (Lü Dongbin), after which he attained Dao and became an immortal. Later, he was regarded as one of the Eight Immortals in Chinese folk legends.
Records of his deeds can be found in Youyang Zazu (Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang). There are also many folk legends about him, including the 30-chapter Complete Biography of Han Xiangzi and several librettos (for storytelling or singing performances).
