The He Qiyu 何其愚

The He Qiyu 何其愚

Paul Peng
He Qiyu was a native of Anren (now part of Jiangxi Province) during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Tesheng, and he was the nephew of He Haishu.

He was a Taoist priest at Ziwei Courtyard of Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi.

He had an upright and unyielding nature. When the 54th Perfected (Zhang Jizong) was young, his family faced many difficulties, and He Qiyu took care of and protected him until the Perfected came of age.
When the Perfected was 16 years old, he was entitled to inherit the position according to regulations, but the local senior officials failed to report this to the imperial court. He Qiyu traveled to the capital and petitioned the Ministry of Rites, which enabled the Perfected to inherit the title.

After the 50th generation, no one in the Heavenly Master's family had continued to compile their genealogy. He Qiyu therefore privately collected the deeds of the 50th to 53rd generations into a volume.

It is thanks to this work that the lineage of the Heavenly Master's family has been passed down.

He lived to the age of 93.
