Paul Peng

Hu Yuanzhou was a figure during the Chongning era (1102-1106) of the Northern Song Dynasty.

As a Sandong Taoist Priest (a Taoist priest proficient in the three major scriptural systems of Taoism: Shangqing, Lingbao, and Zhengyi), he carved into a rock to build Baozhenguan Temple in Pingjiang (an ancient place name, roughly covering parts of present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) and served as its abbot. The story of these events is recorded on the stone stele inscribed with his poems about the Taoist rock.
