The Wonderful Scripture of the Original Deeds of the Five Manifestations of the Numinous Vision and Huaguang of the Supreme Cave Mysterious Numinous Treasure

The author of this scripture is unknown.

Judging from its content and wording, it was presumably compiled by Taoist priests during the Tang and Song dynasties.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Supplementary Daoist Canon.

The scripture states that the Primordial Heavenly Venerable expounded on the karmic causes of good and evil to all true beings in the Great Luo Heaven. In the realm of the Three Heavens, the “Great Sage of Numinous Vision, Huaguang, and the Five Great Heavenly Masters” made a vow to save and deliver all living beings. The Heavenly Venerable then dispatched golden boys and jade maidens to summon the Five Great Heavenly Masters of Numinous Vision, instructing them to manifest incarnations in the mortal world, subdue demons, bring them back to the Dao, and deliver the living and the deceased.

It is claimed that these Five Great Heavenly Masters of Numinous Vision are endowed with the essence of the Five Stars and Five Qis, and nurtured by the radiance of the Five Spirits of the Five Directions. They can manifest ten forms to descend into the mortal world and deliver all living beings. When people in the mortal world call upon their names and recite the Incantation of Numinous Vision, the masters will manifest their forms in response to the supplications. The Heavenly Venerable further declared: if evil demons in the world harm all living beings, people may observe fasts, purify themselves by bathing, erect an altar to the Five Sages, set up seats for the Three Pure Ones, present memorials and documents, recite scriptures and confess their sins, and earnestly entreat the Great Sage of Numinous Vision to lead his retinue down to earth and dispel the demonic miasma. If encountering disasters such as floods, droughts, wars, plagues, wrongful afflictions, or illnesses, people can also hold sacrificial ceremonies to invoke the Great Sage, who will then turn misfortune into fortune.
