Huang Jiayou was a Taoist priest at Fanxi Courtyard of Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi during the Xuande reign of the Ming Dynasty. In the 9th year of the Xuande reign (1434), he was summoned to the capital. His replies to the emperor’s questions met the imperial will, so he was appointed as "Zuo Zhiling" (a mid-ranking official) of the Daolu Division (the top imperial agency in charge of national Taoist affairs) by imperial order.
