The Jade Formulary for Immortality 太上肘后玉经方

Compiled by Lu Zunyuan, also known as Xialouzi, a Taoist Priest of the late Tang Dynasty.

It was recorded in Secret Catalog, Comprehensive Records, and Bibliography of the Song Dynasty during the Southern Song Dynasty.

The existing version in The Daozang consists of one volume, included in the Methods category of the Dongshen Section.

It is also collected in Volume 77 of Yunji Qiqian. A preface written by the author precedes the book, stating that this work was originally taught by Lord Qingtong to Chaojuzi in ancient times; during the Chang'an reign (701-704 AD), Chaojuzi passed it down to Hanqizi; in the eighth year of the Zhenyuan reign (792 AD), Hanqizi transmitted it to Xialouzi (Lu Zunyuan); and Xialouzi further imparted it to Yilouzi Shi Jun (Shi Jianwu) in the Yisi year of the Baoli reign (corrected from the original "Yihai" to the accurate "Yisi", 825 AD).

The book is divided into eight chapters, collecting eight medicinal prescriptions in the order of the Bagua. They are: Tianfu Dimu Qijing San (Heavenly Father and Earthly Mother Seven Essences Powder), Fenghou Sishan San (Feng Hou's Four Fans Powder), Wangjun Heche Fang (Lord Wang's River Chariot Prescription), Guitai Wangmu Sitong San (Turtle Terrace Queen Mother's Four Boys Powder), Pengjun Mijiao Fen (Lord Peng's Deer Antler Powder), Xia Ji Xingjin Dan (Xia Ji's Apricot Gold Elixir), Chisongzi Gouqi Jian (Red Pine Son's Wolfberry Decoction), and Qingjing Xiansheng Niumi Fan (Master Pure Essence's Glutinous Rice Rice). These eight prescriptions are all ingestion formulas used by Taoist priests of the Shangqing School, falsely attributed to transmission from immortals. Each prescription details the ingredients (mostly herbal medicines), their dosages, as well as the preparation and administration methods.

Rooted in the health preservation thought of Taoism, the book reflects the integration of herbal medicine application and Taoist cultivation concepts in traditional Chinese culture.
