The Jia Zhifu 贾志福

Jia Zhifu was a native of Runan during the Yuan Dynasty.

He styled himself "Qingjing Sanren" (literally meaning "Hermit of Purity and Quietude"). At the age of twenty, he became a Taoist monk and studied under Real Person Wang Qiyun, a Taoist master.

Later, when he traveled to Nanyang, he encountered a military commander. The commander threatened him, but Jia remained silent and had no words to respond. Even when he was flogged, he still kept silent until the end. The military advisor was shocked and ashamed; he apologized to Jia and presented him with silver, then built a house to host him. Taking advantage of a gap, Jia escaped and fled to Jingzhao (an ancient place name, roughly covering present-day Xi'an and its surrounding areas).

Real Person Wang Qiyun recommended Jia to the imperial court, but Jia fled again and took up residence in Tongxuan Taoist Temple. Jia regarded "remaining silent" as his core principle. He lived a life of clarity, tranquility, frugality and simplicity, and never engaged in flattering or deceptive behaviors. Throughout the year, he wore linen clothes and straw sandals, living a carefree and contented life to preserve his true nature.

He lived to the age of eighty-three.
