The Jiang Rihe 蒋日和

The Jiang Rihe 蒋日和

Paul Peng
Jiang Rihe was a native of Jiangning during the Ming Dynasty.

He became a Taoist monk at an early age. He first studied under Tiantiangong (Heavenly Court Palace) Taoist Priest Xie Wuwei, who held the title of Tidian (a senior Taoist administrative position), and later became a disciple of the revered Taoist master Liu Yuanran.

As recorded in The Record of the Construction and Development of Zhenqing Temple, Jiang Rihe traveled to Yunnan and served as the abbot of Kunming Zhenqing Temple.

Over six years, the temple saw a flourishing of incense offerings (indicating widespread devotion) and the prosperous development of Taoist practices.

In the first year of the Hongxi reign of the Ming Renzong Emperor (1425), he was granted the title of "Mingzhen Xiandao Hongjiao Fashi" (the Dharma Master of Bright Truth, Manifested Dao, and Vast Teaching).
