The Jiang Shuyu 蒋叔舆

Jiang Shuyu (1156–1217) was a figure of the Southern Song Dynasty.

His courtesy name was Dezhan, and his literary name was Cunzhai. He studied under Liu Yongguang (a prominent Taoist master) and specialized in the annotation and research of Taoist ritual practices (zhai fa). He once compiled three works on Taoist rituals: Huanglu Zhaiyi (Rituals of the Yellow Register Retreat), Ziran Zhaiyi (Rituals of the Natural Retreat), and Duren Xiuzhai Xingxiang Songjing Yi (Rituals for Practicing Retreats, Offering Incense, and Reciting Scriptures to Save Beings). These works were collectively titled Lingbao Yujian (Jade Records of the Numinous Treasure). Among them, only Huanglu Zhaiyi has survived to later generations.

This surviving work is the 57-volume Wushang Huanglu Dazhai Licheng Yi (Complete Established Rituals of the Supreme Great Yellow Register Retreat) currently included in the Daozang (Taoist Canon), which was supplemented by scholars of the Ming Dynasty.

As a comprehensive compilation of the Huanglu Zhai (Yellow Register Retreat) rituals, this book preserves a great deal of ancient ritual materials that have been lost in other sources.
