Jin Xiang was a native of Xin'an (now part of Anhui Province) during the Qing Dynasty.
His courtesy name was Qianyang, and his art name was Henu.

Records of Wuyi Mountain states: He became a Taoist Priest at Maoshan Mountain, and later moved to Luofu Guan (Luofu Taoist Temple) and Wuyi Taoist Temple. He was renowned in his time for his calligraphy and painting.
