The Jing Suyang 景素阳

The Jing Suyang 景素阳

Paul Peng
Jing Suyang was a Taoist priest from Xiangling County during the Yuan Dynasty.

He studied under Liang Gubin and practiced Taoism at the Fushan Taoist Abbey.

As recorded in Volume 5 of Lidai Shenxian Shi (History of Immortals Through the Ages): At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, when wars and rebellions broke out, local villagers fled to the mountains to hide, but only Gubin and Suyang refused to take shelter.

When the rebel soldiers arrived at the Taoist abbey and failed to extort money or valuables from them, they intended to kill Gubin. Suyang stepped forward to take his teacher’s place. The rebel soldiers struck Suyang with a sword, but the sword suddenly broke into three pieces. Terrified, the soldiers fled in disorder.
