The Jinshan Sect 金山派

The Jinshan Sect, a branch of the Longmen Sect of Quanzhen Taoism.
Because it originated from Mount Lao in Shandong, it is also called the Laoshan Sect. It was founded by Sun Xuanqing, the fourth generation of the Longmen Sect. According to records such as Essentials for the Mysterious Gate, Sun Xuanqing, with the courtesy name Yuanyu, the Taoist title Jinshan, and also known as Haiyue Shanren, was a native of Mount Lao in Jimo County, Laizhou Prefecture, Shandong (or said to be from Shouguang County, Qingzhou Prefecture). He became a monk at Mingxia Cave in Mount Lao in his childhood and took Li Xiantuo as his teacher. Later, he traveled to Yunguang Cave in Tiecha Mountain, where he met Tongyuanzi, who taught him the method of inner alchemy (the technique of regulating the movement of qi through lifting and lowering the heavenly gate).
At the age of 19, Taihe Zhenren of Jimo County took him to Huangshi Palace, where he practiced painstakingly for more than 20 years and achieved considerable success. In the 37th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1558), he went to Baiyun Temple in Beijing to sit in meditation for a year, showing many supernatural phenomena. He was granted the title "Protector of the State Teacher, Left Assistant to the Religious Leader, Purple Sun True Person".
He passed away in the 3rd year of the Longqing reign (1569) at the age of 73. The General Register of All True Sects, copied and stored in Beijing Baiyun Temple in 1926, records the generational characters of this sect. However, there is no record of its inheritance and activities.
