The Scripture of Saving and Protecting Life, Expounded by the Master of the Cave Mysterious Numinous Treasure
The author of this scripture remains unknown.
Judging from its content and wording, it was presumably composed by Taoist priests during the Northern and Southern Dynasties or the early Sui and Tang dynasties.

Attributed to the Master Yuanyang Immortal Lord delivering teachings to his disciples, the first half of the scripture claims that this text possesses immense divine power—reciting even a single line or verse can ward off disasters and repel evil. It also records the titles of the Seven Immortal True Persons and six divine immortals, stating that invoking their names can eliminate evil, cure illnesses, and turn peril into safety.
The second half narrates the life story of Immortal Master Lin of Yuanyang, as well as the names and backgrounds of his various disciples, including figures such as Zhang Jiao and Zhang Ling.
According to Dunhuang manuscript S482, Volume of Yuanyang: Scripture Section on Transcending the Dead and Relieving Calamities, most of its content and wording are identical to this text.
It is suspected that this scripture was compiled and adapted by Taoist priests of the Sui and Tang dynasties by excerpting portions of the Yuanyang Scripture.
