The Ju Zhiyuan 鞠志圆

The Ju Zhiyuan 鞠志圆

Paul Peng
Ju Zhiyuan was a figure of the Jin Dynasty and an intimate disciple of Qiu Chuji (a renowned Taoist master of the Quanzhen School).

He accompanied Qiu Chuji on his westward journey to meet Genghis Khan. After returning to Yanjing (modern-day Beijing), he resided at Changchun Palace (a major Quanzhen Taoist temple).
When Qiu Chuji passed away, Yin Qinghe (another key Quanzhen Taoist master) proposed building a memorial hall for their teacher at Baiyun Guan (White Cloud Taoist Temple). Ju Zhiyuan took charge of overseeing the construction project. The hall was completed three years later, and all members of the Taoist community held him in high esteem for this achievement.

Detailed accounts of his life and deeds can be found in The Journey to the West of Immortal Changchun and Volume 4 of A Study on the Origin and Development of Changchun Taoism.
