The Li Chongdao 李冲道

Li Chongdao was a native of Pingyang in the Jin Dynasty, and went by the Taoist title "Qingxuzi" (Master of Pure Emptiness).

In the 12th year of the Dading era (1172), he took Ma Danyang as his teacher and resided at the ancestral court in Liujiang Village to practice Taoism.

In the 22nd year of the Dading era (1182), when Ma Danyang returned eastward, Li Chongdao switched to studying under Qiu Changchun (Qiu Chuji). In the 2nd year of the Mingchang era (1191), he followed Qiu Changchun’s order to spread Taoist teachings and confer ordination in Hedong (a historical region covering parts of present-day Shanxi and Henan). He built the Chongxu Guan (Chongxu Taoist Temple) west of Linfen County, where he resided and initiated hundreds of disciples into Taoism.

Li Chongdao was fond of composing poems; the profound Taoist principles were revealed between the lines of his works.
