Li Chongzhao was a figure at the end of the Tang Dynasty. As stated in the Preface to A Brief Record of Nanyue: "Since childhood, he has studied Taoism on Mount Heng.
When he grew up, he frequently visited sacred sites, eager to explore all the extraordinary and remarkable phenomena.

Thus, he extensively examined ancient steles and The Topographic Classic of Mount Heng, paid respects to and consulted elderly and senior figures in the Taoist community.
