The Li Jianyi 李简易
Paul PengShare
Li Jianyi was a native of Yuanzhou (now Yichun County, Jiangxi Province) during the Jingding era of the Southern Song Dynasty, and his literary name was Yuxi Zi.
From a young age, he studied Confucianism, and he meticulously researched and mastered not only Buddhist and Taoist classics but also the arts of medicine, divination, astrology, and calculation.

He had a particular passion for the "Great Dao of Golden Elixir" (a core practice of Taoist alchemy). He traveled to visit wanderers across rivers and lakes, as well as virtuous scholars in famous mountains. Eventually, he encountered an extraordinary person who taught him the "Dao of Elixir" (alchemical techniques). Thus, he authored Essentials of the Elixir Scripture by Yuxi Zi in three volumes, which expounds on the alchemical methods of the Southern Sect (a major school of Taoist alchemy).
