Li Jinxiu was a native of Jinxi (now part of Zhejiang Province) from the late Song Dynasty to the early Yuan Dynasty.

He was a Taoist priest of Chongxi Courtyard at Longhu Mountain.
During the Xianchun era (of the Song Dynasty), he was conferred the title of "Taoist Master of Bright Distantness, Profound Subtlety, and Vast Teaching" and took charge of the Daoist Registrar Office of Yuanzhou.

In the early years of the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty, he was summoned to the imperial court and appointed "Left Zhengyi of the Daoist Registrar Office". He built Fanxi Guan (Fanxi Temple) under imperial order, was promoted to "Gaoshi" (Virtuous Adept), and concurrently oversaw Taoist administrative affairs across the country.
