Li Liangzuo was a native of Jinling in the Southern Tang Dynasty (now part of Nanjing). His courtesy name was Yuanfu. In the first year of the Baoda era (943), he left Jinling and went to Fujian, where he lived in seclusion in Mount Wuyi for 17 years. He was bestowed the title "Mr. Yandao Chonghe" (Mr. Who Spreads the Dao and Embodies Harmony).

He is revered as the "Founding Patriarch of Mount Wuyi" and later passed away in the Qingxu Hall of Mount Wuyi. (Source: Fujian Tongzhi [General Records of Fujian])
