Li Shaowei was a native of Fangzhou (now Fangxian County, Hubei Province) during the Northern Song Dynasty. He held the Taoist title "Zhenren Yunshan Baoyi" (Yunshan Baoyi Perfected Person) and came from a family of government officials in Fangzhou for generations. Later, he abandoned secular life to pursue the path of truth.
He was inspired by his teacher, who conferred upon him the Taoist position of Qingwei Duyuan Youqing. Li Shaowei propagated and practiced the Qingwei Thunder Method, which was quite effective in manifesting spiritual powers. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Director of the Five Thunder Court.
