The Li Simu 李思慕

Paul Peng

Li Simu

Li Simu was a native of Chengji during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.
He lived in seclusion on the Five Peaks of Mount Heng (the Southern Great Mountain).
When he entered the imperial capital, he was introduced to Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty through Gao Lishi (a powerful eunuch and close aide to the emperor).
His responses to the emperor’s questions fully met the monarch’s expectations. The emperor bestowed generous gifts upon him and held a farewell feast for him before Li Simu returned to seclusion on Zigaifeng (Purple Canopy Peak).
He authored Annotations on the Scripture of Purity and Tranquility, which was circulated and preserved among later generations.
