Li Xuanzhen was a native of Liaodong during the Tang Dynasty.
He was a Taoist priest at the Chongxuan Guan (Chongxuan Abbey) on Mount Lu.

He composed Shangqing Jinmu Qiuxian Shangfa (The Supreme Method of Praying for Immortality to the Golden Mother of the Shangqing Realm), a one-volume work. This book contains illustrations of spiritual talismans, with corresponding textual interpretations. It is an important classic for the study of talismanic scripts.
