The Li Yun 李允

The Li Yun 李允

Paul Peng
Li Yun was a native of Quyang in Hebei during the Yuan Dynasty.

His courtesy name was Congdao, and he was commonly known as "Hermit Xiyi" by people of his time.

He once climbed Mount Heng (the Northern Great Mountain in Chinese traditional geography). Delighted by the majestic and steep landscape of the mountain, he decided to settle there permanently. He built a shrine dedicated to Laozi (the founder of Taoism) and the Qingxi Taoist Abbey.

He did not seek fame or status, nor did he compete with others in his era. He adapted to the ordinary ways of life while practicing the doctrines of Laozi. For these reasons, he was held in high esteem by the people of his time.
