Li Zheng was a native of Henei (present-day Wuzhi County, Henan Province) during the Eastern Han Dynasty. He attained the Dao by practicing the "Shouyi Method" (Method of Maintaining Unity) and the "Dongfang Huanyuan Elixir Method" (Bridal Chamber Elixir Method of Returning to the Origin).

As recorded in Zhengao (True Declarations), Volume 7, and Sandong Zhunang (Pearly Satchel of the Three Caverns): He initially resided in Yangluo Mountain, then later entered Huayang Mountain, Siping Mountain, and Damao Mountain, where he collected and took "stone brains" (a type of mineral used in Taoist alchemy), making his body light and robust.
