Lian Kezhang was a native of Jinxi during the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty.
He studied Taoism at Yuxian Guan (Yuxian Taoist Temple) on Longhu Mountain.

In the early years of the Chenghua reign, he was summoned to the imperial court. He was appointed "Zuo Zhiling of Daolu Si" (a senior official in the state agency overseeing Taoist affairs), later promoted to "Sicheng of Taichang Si" (a secondary official in the court agency managing rituals and sacrifices), and further elevated to "Qing of Taichang Si" (the head of Taichang Si) with the status of an imperial commissioner. He passed away in the capital.
Details of his life can be found in Longhu Mountain Records.
