Liang Chen (248–318)
A native of Fufeng (now part of Shanxi Province) during the Wei and Jin dynasties, with the courtesy name Kaocheng.
As recorded in Louguan Xianshi Zhuan Bei (Stele of the Biographies of Louguan’s Founding Masters) and Zhenxian Beiji (Stele Inscriptions of True Immortals): In the early years of the Xianxi era of the Wei Dynasty (264–265), he went to Louguan (a renowned Taoist sacred site) and studied under Master Zheng, practicing Taoism for several years. He had lofty and profound aspirations, and his sincere devotion resonated with the profound Dao.

In the second year of the Yongxing era of Emperor Hui of the Jin Dynasty (305), he encountered the True Person of Great Harmony, who descended to his courtyard and imparted to him texts and teachings including Riyue Huanghua Shangjing (Supreme Scripture of the Golden Glory of the Sun and Moon), the method of refining cinnabar with water and stones, and Benqi Neizhuan (Inner Biography of the Origin and Development [of Taoism]). He delved deeply into these teachings and practiced diligently; after three years, he successfully refined the cinnabar elixir. After taking it, his body became as light as a feather, and his complexion was as youthful as a child’s.
He attained immortality and passed away in the second year of the Taixing era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (318).
