The Lin Jiuniang 林九娘
Paul PengShare
Lin Jiuniang was a native of Fuzhou during the Five Dynasties period.
Her original given name was Juan, and she was the daughter of Fuzhou’s governor (Junshou, an ancient official title for governing a prefecture).

From childhood, she admired the Taoist school (Xuanmen, a term referring to Taoism in ancient China). According to legend, Immortal Xu, the leader of the Taoist tradition of Mount Chang (Changsan), accepted her as his female disciple and imparted to her all the doctrines and practices of the Jingming Sect (a major branch of Taoism).
Later, she formed a sisterly bond with Chen Jinggu. She was one of the "Three Nai Madams" (a group of revered female Taoist figures widely worshipped in southern China).
