The Lin Xuji 林虚极

Paul Peng
Lin Xuji was a native of Tong'an, Fujian during the Northern Song Dynasty.

As recorded in Gazetteer of Quanzhou Prefecture (Quanzhou Fuzhi): He became a Taoist priest in his early years and was skilled at playing the guqin (a traditional Chinese seven-stringed zither).
He was officially registered as a Taoist priest at Tianqing Temple in Quanzhou for a total of thirty years.

During the Xuanhe era (1119–1125 AD), he went to the imperial capital, passed the Guqin Performance Examination (a specialized assessment for musical skills), and received repeated commendations from Emperor Huizong.

Later, he was appointed by imperial edict as the abbot of Shenxiao Yuqing Wanshou Temple and bestowed the title "Jintan Lang" (a Taoist official title).
