The Mysterious Chapter of Rousing Corpses and Redeeming the Dead in the Nine Dark Abysses of Long Night in the Numinous Treasure Tradition has an unknown author.
It is included in the Hymns category of the Cavern Mysterious Section in Daozang (the Taoist Canon).
This text compiles twenty-six five-character lyrical verses for purifying and redeeming the deceased. Most of these verses convey that those who fail to cultivate merits and perform good deeds during their lifetime will endure suffering and misfortune after death; only by holding Taoist fasting ceremonies and practicing almsgiving can one redeem the deceased and help their souls ascend to heaven.
The verses collected here are presumably ritual lyrics for the Yellow Silk Fasting Ceremony (Huangzuan Zhai).
